Five Simple Ways to Improve Your Home’s First Impression

What do people see when they look at your home for the first time, and is there anything getting in the way of that first impression?

At Amber Valley our team wants you to fall in love with your home and be proud of the place where you hang your hat. We would love to help you achieve a deep level of peace and contentment every time you pull into your driveway, and we’re ready to go to work to get it done!

So, here are five easy, simple ways to improve your home’s first impression and curb appeal.

Touch Up Your Landscaping

It might not feel simple or easy while you’re working on it, but over the course of the season you can really improve your lawn with scheduled fertilizer and weed killer applications, or some overseeing in the fall. And adding new plants with fresh mulch doesn’t take much more than a weekend or two, and can really improve the overall look and feel of your property.

Pressure Wash!

Renting a pressure washer is simple. Using it (or paying someone to use it for you) can take literal years of mold and grime off your home’s siding, concrete, deck, garage door, and more, restoring its original color and beauty. Just be sure to use the proper form and pressure settings to avoid damaging different surfaces.

Hide your Trash Cans

Having trash or recycling bins outside an otherwise beautiful and picturesque home is a bit of a bummer. Consider adding a small fence that can obscure your trash cans and keep them out of the picture without inconveniencing you or your family. These go well on the sides of homes or even the edge of your driveway, depending on your layout.

Replace your Mailbox

Unless it’s run over by a snowplow your average mailbox can serve for decades without any real issues. But just because it can, doesn’t mean it always should. If your mailbox is sagging, broken, discolored, or outdated it might be time to upgrade. After all, your mailbox is always front and center and it’s one of the main tools guests use when looking for your home number.

Repaint or Replace your Doors and Windows

We’ve written before about how replacing your front door can be one of the best home improvements you can make in terms of retail value. But it’s also one of the best upgrades you can make to give your home a fresh impact. Your door is the entryway, the gateway, the welcome mat that everyone uses when they come in. If it’s cracked, pealing, sagging, or hidden behind an ugly screen or glass door it won’t help to inspire confidence.

The same goes for windows, which generally age poorly. Updating with fresh, clear glass and modern materials has an outsize impact on the overall look, feel, and estimated age of the home. If the doors and windows look new the house looks better everywhere!

There’s also a case to be made for the improved energy management doors and windows can provide, but we won’t touch on that here.
